Plot
In 1920s Soviet Russia, a group of Estonians—young Agnes, her mother, Agnes’s friend engineer Karl Raudsepp, and his fiancée Erna—wait for permission to return home. But love doesn't care about plans, poverty, or the looming violence. Karl and Agnes develop mutual feelings, driving Erna to jealousy so fierce she falsely reports Agnes to the Cheka. Meanwhile, Agnes’s beauty captivates both Commissar Miroschtschenko and secret agent Hevelyn, each determined to win her heart.
