The Living Corpse (1929)
Plot
Fedor Protasov, the play's protagonist, is haunted by the suspicion that his wife Liza never truly made a choice between him and Victor Karenin, a more conventional suitor who once vied for her hand. Though he longs to end his life, he lacks the courage to do it. Fleeing his existence, he drifts into a Gypsy community and becomes sexually involved with Masha, a Gypsy singer.
