Plot
On January 9, 1836, condemned murderer and thief Pierre Lacenaire faces the guillotine, leaving behind a poignant account of his life for Inspector Allard. As Allard promises to look after Hermine, the girl Lacenaire has protected for over a decade, flashbacks reveal key moments from his past. Viewers witness Lacenaire's defiance against bullies and priests, his descent into crime, his first killing, a short-lived stint in the army, and passionate encounters, including a romance with a princess and his heartbreaking bond with Avril, who meets a tragic fate alongside him.
