Virginia Dowe-Edwards has always had a profound affection for dogs, a passion that blossomed during her childhood alongside her beloved pet, Tolly, a striking Labrador and Irish Setter mix. Tolly was a constant companion from the age of two until she was eighteen, forging a bond that felt more like siblinghood than that of a pet and owner. This early connection continues to influence her artistic creations, as she sees reflections of Tolly in the dogs she sculpts today, particularly her current canine muse, Wilf.

Wilf, a striking German Wire-haired Pointer, has been a significant source of inspiration for Virginia’s work. After years of visiting Crufts with her sketchbook and camera, she finally welcomed this hound into her life, and his whimsical antics, such as attempting to fit into the tiniest dog bed, never fail to amuse her. The family recently grew to include Dixie, a feisty wire-haired dachshund who brings a blend of sass and affection, often playfully teasing her older brother, Wilf.

Virginia's upbringing in a creatively nurturing environment fueled her artistic ambitions from a young age, leading her to model dogs in plasticine while developing her drawing skills. Today, she is thrilled to fulfill her childhood dream of sculpting pets, a career that resonates deeply with her lifelong love for animals. She once contemplated becoming a zookeeper, but her true calling lay in the arts, where she brings joy to pet owners through her sculptures.
