Michael James Hegstrand, an American professional wrestler, is most famous for portraying Road Warrior Hawk, one half of the legendary tag team The Road Warriors—known as The Legion of Doom in WWE—alongside Road Warrior Animal. Beyond this partnership, Hawk occasionally challenged for world heavyweight titles on pay-per-view between the late 1980s and mid-1990s, and he headlined ECW's November to Remember in 1993. Although the Road Warriors never formally disbanded, Animal increasingly competed solo after their WWE departure as Hegstrand battled drug and alcohol addiction, often missing wrestling events. In 2001, Hegstrand was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which briefly halted his career, but he recovered and resumed a regular schedule.
On June 22, 2002, at International Wrestling Superstars, the Road Warriors defeated The Headshrinkers to claim the World Tag-Team Championship. The duo made a surprise Raw appearance on May 12, 2003, facing Kane and Rob Van Dam for the World Tag Team Championship. Though they lost, Hawk had clearly overcome his personal struggles. Later that year, he wrestled for the All World Wrestling League in Holt, Michigan—his second-to-last match. His final bout came two weeks before his death, teaming with Ted DiBiase against Greg Valentine and Marcus Bagwell in Oshawa, Ontario.
Hegstrand passed away on October 19, 2003, at his Indian Rocks Beach, Florida home from a sudden heart attack at age 46. At the time, he and Animal were collaborating on a book. In 2005, Animal returned to WWE and dedicated his run to Hegstrand. The Road Warriors were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2011 on April 2, 2011, with Paul Ellering, inducted by Dusty Rhodes. Hawk also appeared with Animal in WWE '13's Attitude
