Aly Sobhy is an Egyptian actor whose artistic foundation spans acting, contemporary theatrical dance, and vocal performance. From 2001 to 2010, he co-founded and performed with the street theater troupe Hala, establishing himself within Cairo’s alternative performance scene. In 2011, he expanded his creative leadership by co-founding Kouta Hamra, a company devoted to modern circus arts and socially engaged theater.
His film career is marked by both critical and festival recognition. Sobhy starred in the short film *Dead Money*, which took home the Best Short Film Award at the 2006 National Festival. He later appeared in the feature *Last Days of the City*, a work that earned the Caligari Award at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival. That same year, his performance in *Ali, the Goat and Ibrahim* earned him the Best Actor Award at the Dubai International Film Festival, cementing his reputation as a compelling and versatile screen presence.
Through a blend of physical theater, street performance, and cinematic work, Sobhy has carved out a distinctive path in Egyptian arts—one that bridges experimental stagecraft with emotionally grounded film acting. His contributions continue to resonate across both independent and festival circuits.
