R. Muthuraman (1929–1981) was a celebrated Tamil cinema actor who earned the affectionate title Navarasa Thilakam for his remarkable versatility. During the 1960s and 1970s, he established himself as one of the industry's foremost leading men, appearing in more than a hundred films. He shared the screen with every major heroine of his era, becoming a familiar and beloved face in Tamil cinema. His son, Karthik Muthuraman, followed in his footsteps as both a Tamil actor and politician. The family's acting legacy continued into a third generation when his grandson, Gautham Karthik, made his acting debut in the 2013 film Kadal. Though his life was cut short at the age of 52, R. Muthuraman's contributions to Tamil film left a lasting impression on the industry and its audiences.
